Interview With the Incredible Fred Van Lente Part 1

Well well what do i have here my first Interview!!! with Fred Van Lente about his upcoming Shadowland : Power man & Iron Fist mini with Mahmud Asrar and also spinning out of that Power Man & Iron Fist mini. So Fist fans let your chi flow here is Part 1 of what we discussed

IFF: Let me start with Shadowland : Power Man and Iron Fist mini, who came up with the idea of it and Can you tell  more about the new Power man his abilities and  the character's back ground and how he fit in the mini

FVL : Well, don't forget these are two different series we're talking about, here -- SHADOWLAND: POWER MAN is an integral part of the SL event and then PM & IF spins out of that.

My understanding is that since Luke Cage hadn't used the name in a long time, SHADOWLAND would be a great opportunity to introduce a new, different Power Man to the Marvel U. Victor "Vic" Alvarez is a half-African-American, half-Dominican teenager with the apparent power to absorb chi from his environment (and other people) and expel it through exploding punches. So he is one tough hombre -- but for how he got his powers, what his connection to classic (and recently deceased) villain Bullseye is, and the sinister secret that he shares with Luke Cage, the most famous Power Man ever, I'll let you read the series and find out.

IFF: Will the storyline just be concentrated on Shadowland or continue from what Duane Swierczynski did

FVL: If you mean August's POWER MAN series, yes, that will be connected the SHADOWLAND event itself. As for January's POWER MAN & IRON FIST series, that will flow more out of what Ed and Matt and Duane were doing in IMMORTAL IRON FIST.

IFF: It seems die hard fans of the old heroes for hire duo are skeptical about the creation of a New Power man, what will u bring on the table to satisfy the fans.

FVL: Wait. Fans are skeptical? Of changes to beloved characters? Comics fans? I'm shocked, shocked!

Seriously, how about seeing Jennie Royce, El Aguila, Black Tiger, Professor Gambit, Jeryn Hogarth, Crimebuster, Lt. Rafael Scarfe, Misty Knight ... and don't forget Luke Cage. He has a vested interest in making sure his legacy is continued in the right way, so he's a big part of POWER MAN & IRON FIST as well.

IFF: Also what will the new power man relationship be like with Danny Rand compared to the relationship Luke Cage already have with Danny both as in Partners and bestfriend?

FVL:  This is much more of a mentor/student relationship, in that Danny wants to teach Vic how to channel his powers properly...but Vic doesn't particularly thinks he needs a tutor, so Iron Fist has his work cut out for him. But it's not like Danny is going to let some punk push him around. What we're trying to do is return POWER MAN & IRON FIST to what it always was: Marvel's premiere big-budget buddy action franchise, with all the martial arts thrills and tongue-in-cheek humor everyone loved about the original series.

IFF: Will there be more students of danny rand's martial arts school or will it be just the new power man and other characters like Misty knight,Collen Wing and Luke Cage him self what roles will they play?

FVL: Misty Knight will be returning as the love of Danny's life. Their relationship will be taking some interesting twists, you'll see.

IFF: Did u work with Andy diggle also since the Power man mini falls under the umbrella of Shadowland or is it just your standout ideas?

FVL: Ha! I have been following Andy's scripts for SHADOWLAND very closely so POWER MAN ties in nice and neatly, yes.

IFF: In terms of art what can we expect from Mahmud Asrar and what do you think of his work?

FVL: Mahmud is absolutely blowing me away with the action and character on his POWER MAN pencils. I was bummed when I heard his schedule prevented him from continuing on the next series. Though my frown was turned upside down when editor Bill Rosemann told me Wellinton Alves would be joining the team.

IFF: As it was just announced another mini Power Man & Iron fist mini will spin out of the Shadowland : power man & Iron Fist mini, will it be a full story with an end or there might be a continuity after the mini

FVL: As with all things, if enough fans support the book, there will be more. So I would encourage each and every person reading this interview to buy between six and ten copies of each issue. Sell your blood and plasma as necessary.

I'll be following Van Lente onto his IF & PM mini, might even order the Shadowland: PM title now as well, which I wasn't going to previously.

This is a decent interview, but you seem confused between the two titles, and to add a touch of professionalism you might want to add some serious proofing to your question, capital letters, all that jazz...but that's just me being picky.

Great work scoring your first interview, and right in the middle of SDCC, can't wait for the next parts to this chat, Van Lente really is a top bloke.

Your blog is giving the best information but i think If the point is not to go from one party to another, van rental can be just as useful in San Francisco for use in a major shopping spree. All that is needed is the money to buy a lot of things ? or a few large things ? and it leaves trying to use a car relegated to the category of failure.
